The Good Stuff Needs More Attention

This is my mantra.

It's so easy to forget this sometimes, don't focus on the bad stuff, drop the negative. It only poisons your mind, and you can't see all the awesome that's surrounding you.

Give the good stuff more attention.

911 typography study

I don't think anyone that was in the vicinity of NYC on 9/11/01 will ever forget. I'm thankful my mother was not harmed that day, she came close. Every year we all remember, and it becomes more surreal as time passes.

Last September 11 I did this type doodle to cope with the haunting memories from that day.

Never Forget.

Panda skull bearded in lace

This is a drawing of a Giant Panda's skull, with a lace study I did as it's beard. Threw in a rose too. It's not finished, I still have to work on the nose area. More progress will be posted, stay tuned.

Maya Angelou - Rest in Peace

Yesterday a woman with such a radiant and beautiful spirit became an angel. This is a pencil sketch I did of a young Maya. It is not finished... I plan on adding hand drawn typographic elements around her portrait. Please stay tuned for an update with the finished piece. Maya Angelou will always be remembered for being the Phenomenal Woman that she was, and inspiring so many to be amazing as well. Rest in Paradise Maya.

Updated: May 30, 2014

So here is the latest progress in the Maya Angelou piece. I added typography. It is a list of titles of some of her poems. Now i have to clean it up a bit, make the lines more crisp, and I will update again once it is complete. :)

Self Portrait

There's nothing like a great pair of shades. I had to draw a self portrait with these, they're very 60s style. Who doesn't love a nice cat-eye? Meow!
Here are 4 photos that show the progression, from initial sketch to final with shading.
The reflection on the lenses of the glasses is of Brooklyn, NY from the perspective of Downtown Manhattan.

Savor Life

A little rough sketch of a mechanical hummingbird to start off the week. Hummingbirds represent savoring life, so I like to use them as a pretty little reminder. It is easy to take it for granted, so this is my proactive precaution. 😉
Update: 5/21/14 I inked it in, and shaded it with pencil.
